Anonymous asked:Would the essay readers prefer an essay that makes ONE argument and sticks with it? Or is it Okay to look at different perspectives? I just took the practice essay and i feel i wrote a good argument that looked at both sides, its not like i wasnt sure wht i was talking about. But now im worried if ts better to stick with one side so it doesnt look like i cant make up my mind? Thanks a lot.
Well, I’m not an essay reader so I can’t speak for them, but I know when I read essays from students I know I prefer them to stick to one argument. It’s a tough thing because the questions are carefully constructed so that there isn’t a right or wrong answer, but I’ve rarely seen an essay that I think successfully addresses both sides.
There’s just not enough time or space in 25 minutes and 2 pages to address both sides of an argument, so I prefer to read essays that cover one side exceptionally well.
